Food! Food! Food! in Singapore – 1

i think my blog is becoming food blog… XD

wanted to blog about something else… but i still can’t help to talk about food. friends who met me up these few days should realized that i keep talking about what i ate in singapore haha. paiseh paiseh.

went back to Singapore in May during Golden Week of Japan.

super rare for me to go back during such period, as I always go back in December only (except for once I went back July for my sis’s wedding)

i guess most friends should know why lah

i always told myself must control my appetite when i go back singapore because i often get stomach pain returning japan due to over-eating in singapore, but i failed super badly this time… got a super bad tummy ache on the first night haha… anyway i forced myself to sleep that night, and next morning, ls-ed, and eat here and there again! wahaha…

first day at singapore was super fulfilling!!! … or rather super filling XD

met up with mag mag who drove me to old airport road for good food! thanks thanks!!!

love hawker food!!!

i think you will discover the love, only after u’ve been away from spore for a long time haha

in the past, when i was in singapore, hawker food is like “taken for granted” by me. anyway super sad that some hawkers have to give up their business because of old age, despite having many fans. sigh sigh.

we had lao fu zi char kuey tiao!!! which mag queued for like 15 mins.

its super yummy loh! can give them full stars liao!!! don’t need to say more about it… haha

and then we queued for about 10 mins for a popiah stall. mag wanted kueh pie tee. it’s like more than 8 years since i eat kueh pie tee. and i think this is my second time eating it haha… too bad it does not impress us.

but the popiah is very nice!!! very juicy with solid peanut taste inside!!! as in the peanuts are not too overwhelmed by the main veggie mixture such that you cannot taste the peanut. yum yum!!! you should be able to see the peanut dices in the photo!!!

and then kuey chap!!! omg, super long time never eat!!! and it is yummy! just that the kuey tiao a bit too little lah haha… but the meat hor, dont have those very 膩 taste, doesn’t taste “fatty”. and then the intestines also very yummy, got enough 咬勁! no wonder so many people are queuing for it!!! understand liao. by the way, as shown on the photo, the shop is 135! haha

then we dabao rojak, cheng teng, lao ban dou hua (for our friend. to me, its lao ban pudding XD), goreng pisang, and soursop drink (mine) and had it with another friend. rojak was not bad! it is my second time eating rojak from this stall. u need to get number and wait one. but i still prefer clementi brothers one haha. goreng pisang was so-so. as for soursop drink, i regretted not ordering the blended one instead. cheng teng was too sweet… hah

so in a noon, i ate that much XD

and then i met up with jessica! … very full at the moment. but cannot resist the pretty cakes.

anyway the shop is [The Bakery Chef] at bt merah. i have read about this cafe online, that they serve one of the best carrot cakes in singapore!!! 沒想到 jessica also interested in going since she was the one who suggested it. lucky lucky!

the carrot cake super big loh!!!!!!!! 2 of us cannot finish it! somemore we had another cake!!! but the cake was very moist and dense!!! with generous crunchy nuts inside… cream cheese frosting does not taste too cheesy. its good and solid stuff loh! but i have to say, i got a bit 膩 of it soon. oops guess it was too heavy! i saw a table with 2 people just eating the carrot cake, and they have to dabao in the end (@@)

and of course must order pretty rainbow cake!!! my first time having rainbow cake!!! it was very soft!!! the taste is light too! not too sweet, but i cannot make out what taste is it… hmmm maybe that is the taste of rainbow hahaha…

it took us a while to 忍心 to cut the rainbow cake XD and the top cream swirl is done so prettily!!! i always think people who can decorate cakes are very lihai! cos i think i very bad at decorating cakes… or rather i seldom decorate my cakes, cos waste money wahahaha XD oops and one more excuse! cos i always bring my baked cakes out for friends, so if i decorate them, will have to hunt for boxes to make sure the cakes are nicely brought out (@@)

had hazelnut latte. loves hazelnut! but actually i dont drink coffee, cos it can give me headaches sometimes haha… luckily no headache that time (only tummyache wahahahaha) yummy! hazelnut taste was strong enough to satisfy me

after that we headed to gardens by the bay! my second time here, and first time here for night!

ever since MBS was completed, my every trip to Singapore confirmed will have photos of MBS haha… avid fan sia.

it was super uber hot loh!!! this trip was super hot!!! scary. so we went to tulipmania to enjoy air-con. the tulipmania hmm… it was so-so (to put it badly, cui to 70% level wahaha) but still must take some photos to make my entrance ticket worth it lah haha i don’t like the cross-pattern on the flower dome lah. want to take scenery photos outside, and the cross-pattern rooftop spoiling it… aiyah, or maybe my photography skills not up to the standard to defeat that rooftop. got super nice sunset loh, but cannot take it nicely from inside sadded. cannot make the cross-pattern incorporated artistic-ly in the photos

came across this interesting sign. hey! i didn’t know singapore has wild otters leh!!!

mbs trees are very pretty at night!!!!! should have borrow my papa’s wide-lens convertor (or attachment?) to take wider photos!!!

and then soon! it was dinner time!!!

had “rendang nasi lemak” hmm… a bit ex lah, cos in MBS i guess. but the achar was yummy!!! the chicken was yummy too!!! actually hor, i like achar along with hainanese chicken rice! in jurong east, there is a hawker stall which serves chicken rice with achar, very yummy!!! its like my childhood food haha my papa often dabao that for us in the past

had lychee mint soda… too much fake mint flavour (@@) generous serving of lychees though!

noon we had american carrot cake, dinner we had chinese carrot cake! hahaha… it was a bit normal for me. there were big pieces of egg! but i prefer egg to be more “incorporated” into the radish cake. and i prefer my radish cake to be in smaller pieces haha

oh no, i sacrificed my tummy to write out this post!!! hungry liao lah.

20 things I want to eat in Singapore

In less than a week, I will be in Singapore!!! *YEAH*

Made a list of what I am craving in Singapore! And…

I will strangle anyone who bring me go eat Japanese food or Korean food *roars*

If you have any places to recommend for the following dishes, please tell me, ok!? I think I need to read more http://ieatishootipost.sg/

By the way, I strongly recommend that you don’t go on reading this post in midnight! You are warned! Don’t blame me if you go pick up some snacks after going through this post. hahaha

1) Fish Head Curry

Last time I went back, my sis researched this stall from online. Its in Jurong East! hmm near my old house wahaha. Most of the good ones listed are in the East 😦 Anyway, it was so nice that I actually requested to go there again for dinner before I returned back to Japan. Their 蝦醬雞 is yummy too! But their 鐵板豆腐 a bit too salty for me haha

2) Yong Tau Foo

I started craving this, after the Japan TV actually sort of mentioned Yong Tau Foo!!! Otherwise, I think I have forgotten this dish *oops*

3) Poh Piah

I love the Queensway Poh Piah, but I wonder is it still there. Else, I love the one in Clementi! Next to the Rojak brothers!

4) Yam Paste

This photo is from ji de chi. But actually I love yam paste from Paradise Inn (if I didn’t remember wrongly) and then, also the old favourite from Boon Lay Raja Restaurant. But the last time I went, their standard seemed to drop a bit. I didn’t eat their yam paste that time though. hmmm

5) Mee Pok

I love mee pok from EAT. in Jurong Point. Yummy leh! The amount of black vinegar is just right! Not very big portion, so good for supper!!! I like another from a stall in Jurong West, but I don’t know the name *oops* because always my papa da bao back, so it’s a mysterious stall for me XD

6) Fried Carrot Cake

I don’t have any favourite stall for this leh! But if ask me prefer black or white,
不管是黑或白,只要是好chao tao kuey,我都喜歡. hahaha no lah, actually I prefer black one *bished*

7) Claypot Rice

I used to love the claypot rice in Chinatown, but I wonder is it still there. Anyway, need recommendation!!!

8) Bak Kut Teh

The one my friend brought me in Bugis was very nice leh. Its Song Huat Bak Kut Teh. i like their giam chye haha yummy and I love having bak kut teh along with pig trotters!!!!! *double oink oink* I went to the one in Westgate. Maybe its because its new, there was a queue! But luckily we went there early, so don’t need to queue. They even have iPad to order food. But I think its a bit too expensive. The bak kut teh is still nice lah! They even have dry version.

9) Bubble Tea

My favourite is KOI! I love hazelnut one. But last time I went, the one at Raffles Place
Millenia Walk, not nice leh. Clementi branch one is nicer loh. Though I prefer KOI, actually I drink gong cha more haha… if not I will go for Sweet Talk, peppermint red/black tea with pearls XD

10) Mee hun kuey

Hmm no favourite also. Maybe I want to eat the one my mom cook haha

11) Cheng Teng

I love cheng teng since young. Will always go for cheng teng, rather than ice kachang or chendol. I’m not a fan of neither ice kachang nor chendol. Anyway no favourite. Need recommendation! I feel like making it on my own haha

12) Walnut Paste

I love the walnut paste here at wei xiang yuan. Also like the one in ji de chi. They say drink walnut paste will 補腦 so I will try to drink more when I am back wahahaha if anybody scolds me stupid, I shall blame that the walnut paste 沒有效

13) Satay

Satay reminded me of the weird satays here in Japan hahaha I want my authentic satays in Singapore!!! *roars*

14) Roti Prata

I think I have not eaten any awful pratas before. I prefer my prata to be thick! With a lot of the “unburnt” one wrapped by the “burnt” part… alamak so hard to describe. Actually I like to smell the dough alot wahahaha then sometimes, I will dip the burnt part (the outside part) in the curry, and just eat the inner part on its own, cos I like the dough taste a lot. Weird me XDDD I think some friends have noticed this weird habit of mine to smell bread dough.

15) Tiong Bahru Pau snacks

GIVE ME MY SIEW MAI!!! My favourite siew mai all time!!! I will mostly request this whenever my parents ask me what I want for breakfast the next day. I love Tiong Bahru Pau snacks a lot! Including their da bao, char siew pau… my favourite breakfast might have to be 2 siew mai + 1 char siew pau + 豆花… hungry liao lah.

16) Curry Puff
39533_501683670814_4694052_n
No favourite! But I used to eat curry puffs from a stall in Clementi alot! Any recommendation!? By the way, this photo of curry puffs, is actually made by me! *proud* but hor, the fillings failed lah 😦 the crust passed though (in my own opinion haha). I need to try again!!!

17) Durian
383781_10150574625515815_1832068251_n
I want to try mao shan wang leh!!! Always hear about its legend but never tasted it before. I tried D24 durian ice-cream at Udders before, and it was super yummy!!! And also durian cream puff from Goodwood Park Hotel, thanks to my dear sis. But I don’t understand why the instructions said must put the durian cream puff in the freezer. Why not in the fridge?!?!?! I don’t like my durian cream puff to be hard leh (><) haha I always have the durian dessert at ji de chi! Almost every time I go back Singapore!!! The dessert itself is enough to quench my thirst for durian. yummy!

18) Nasi Lemak
407214_10150620889210815_1982188287_n
I like my nasi lemak to be wrap in coconut leaves, with egg, chicken wing/fish, ikan bilis and peanuts, and cucumber, and many many nasi lemak chilli sauce. yum yum. I went to the famous one at Boon Lay Place before. But frankly speaking, I was super uber full that time, so I could not really enjoy the taste. Therefore if can, I want to go there again!

19) Penang Laksa
401765_10150608627745815_1527560231_n
Sorry to Singapore Laksa! But I prefer penang laksa over singapore laksa. Maybe I prefer fish base, rather than coconut milk base soup. By the way, penang laksa is one of the top 10 dishes all over the world!!! I watched it on TV program one. My Malaysian friend gave me a penang laksa paste before, and it was super yummy! But heard that very hard to find the paste in Malaysia nowadays.

20) Char Kway Teow
401694_10150601294840815_224817102_n
I love the one at Ghim Moh. Have been eating that since my schooling years. Thanks to my papa who always queue for the char kway teow. I will try to beg my papa to bring me there again!

Actually there is more to the list… I want my century egg porridge too! In Red Star Restaurant or Peach Garden… their dim sum is nice. Though there are people who says that standard of Red Star dropped, but I think still ok leh.

But the shop that I think where the standard really dropped, is actually five star chicken rice (bukit timah branch) the chicken becomes smaller leh! I looked through my past photos of the chicken rice from same stall, can see that the chicken did shrunk. I need to look for better chicken rice!

And then I want my rojak too!!! Old airport road rojak is yummy! But hor, my favorite is the clementi one! Both of them look like dancing away while making rojak haha… and then I prefer chinese rojak than india rojak.

By the way, I hope I will not kena gastric problem after I go back Singapore. Because for the past few times, I ate too much in Singapore, and whenever I return back to Japan, my tummy will ache for few days haha… went to doc before. Doc advised me not to eat too much or drink too much at a go *oops*
