Food! Food! Food! in Singapore – 1

i think my blog is becoming food blog… XD

wanted to blog about something else… but i still can’t help to talk about food. friends who met me up these few days should realized that i keep talking about what i ate in singapore haha. paiseh paiseh.

went back to Singapore in May during Golden Week of Japan.

super rare for me to go back during such period, as I always go back in December only (except for once I went back July for my sis’s wedding)

i guess most friends should know why lah

i always told myself must control my appetite when i go back singapore because i often get stomach pain returning japan due to over-eating in singapore, but i failed super badly this time… got a super bad tummy ache on the first night haha… anyway i forced myself to sleep that night, and next morning, ls-ed, and eat here and there again! wahaha…

first day at singapore was super fulfilling!!! … or rather super filling XD

met up with mag mag who drove me to old airport road for good food! thanks thanks!!!

love hawker food!!!

i think you will discover the love, only after u’ve been away from spore for a long time haha

in the past, when i was in singapore, hawker food is like “taken for granted” by me. anyway super sad that some hawkers have to give up their business because of old age, despite having many fans. sigh sigh.

we had lao fu zi char kuey tiao!!! which mag queued for like 15 mins.

its super yummy loh! can give them full stars liao!!! don’t need to say more about it… haha

and then we queued for about 10 mins for a popiah stall. mag wanted kueh pie tee. it’s like more than 8 years since i eat kueh pie tee. and i think this is my second time eating it haha… too bad it does not impress us.

but the popiah is very nice!!! very juicy with solid peanut taste inside!!! as in the peanuts are not too overwhelmed by the main veggie mixture such that you cannot taste the peanut. yum yum!!! you should be able to see the peanut dices in the photo!!!

and then kuey chap!!! omg, super long time never eat!!! and it is yummy! just that the kuey tiao a bit too little lah haha… but the meat hor, dont have those very 膩 taste, doesn’t taste “fatty”. and then the intestines also very yummy, got enough 咬勁! no wonder so many people are queuing for it!!! understand liao. by the way, as shown on the photo, the shop is 135! haha

then we dabao rojak, cheng teng, lao ban dou hua (for our friend. to me, its lao ban pudding XD), goreng pisang, and soursop drink (mine) and had it with another friend. rojak was not bad! it is my second time eating rojak from this stall. u need to get number and wait one. but i still prefer clementi brothers one haha. goreng pisang was so-so. as for soursop drink, i regretted not ordering the blended one instead. cheng teng was too sweet… hah

so in a noon, i ate that much XD

and then i met up with jessica! … very full at the moment. but cannot resist the pretty cakes.

anyway the shop is [The Bakery Chef] at bt merah. i have read about this cafe online, that they serve one of the best carrot cakes in singapore!!! 沒想到 jessica also interested in going since she was the one who suggested it. lucky lucky!

the carrot cake super big loh!!!!!!!! 2 of us cannot finish it! somemore we had another cake!!! but the cake was very moist and dense!!! with generous crunchy nuts inside… cream cheese frosting does not taste too cheesy. its good and solid stuff loh! but i have to say, i got a bit 膩 of it soon. oops guess it was too heavy! i saw a table with 2 people just eating the carrot cake, and they have to dabao in the end (@@)

and of course must order pretty rainbow cake!!! my first time having rainbow cake!!! it was very soft!!! the taste is light too! not too sweet, but i cannot make out what taste is it… hmmm maybe that is the taste of rainbow hahaha…

it took us a while to 忍心 to cut the rainbow cake XD and the top cream swirl is done so prettily!!! i always think people who can decorate cakes are very lihai! cos i think i very bad at decorating cakes… or rather i seldom decorate my cakes, cos waste money wahahaha XD oops and one more excuse! cos i always bring my baked cakes out for friends, so if i decorate them, will have to hunt for boxes to make sure the cakes are nicely brought out (@@)

had hazelnut latte. loves hazelnut! but actually i dont drink coffee, cos it can give me headaches sometimes haha… luckily no headache that time (only tummyache wahahahaha) yummy! hazelnut taste was strong enough to satisfy me

after that we headed to gardens by the bay! my second time here, and first time here for night!

ever since MBS was completed, my every trip to Singapore confirmed will have photos of MBS haha… avid fan sia.

it was super uber hot loh!!! this trip was super hot!!! scary. so we went to tulipmania to enjoy air-con. the tulipmania hmm… it was so-so (to put it badly, cui to 70% level wahaha) but still must take some photos to make my entrance ticket worth it lah haha i don’t like the cross-pattern on the flower dome lah. want to take scenery photos outside, and the cross-pattern rooftop spoiling it… aiyah, or maybe my photography skills not up to the standard to defeat that rooftop. got super nice sunset loh, but cannot take it nicely from inside sadded. cannot make the cross-pattern incorporated artistic-ly in the photos

came across this interesting sign. hey! i didn’t know singapore has wild otters leh!!!

mbs trees are very pretty at night!!!!! should have borrow my papa’s wide-lens convertor (or attachment?) to take wider photos!!!

and then soon! it was dinner time!!!

had “rendang nasi lemak” hmm… a bit ex lah, cos in MBS i guess. but the achar was yummy!!! the chicken was yummy too!!! actually hor, i like achar along with hainanese chicken rice! in jurong east, there is a hawker stall which serves chicken rice with achar, very yummy!!! its like my childhood food haha my papa often dabao that for us in the past

had lychee mint soda… too much fake mint flavour (@@) generous serving of lychees though!

noon we had american carrot cake, dinner we had chinese carrot cake! hahaha… it was a bit normal for me. there were big pieces of egg! but i prefer egg to be more “incorporated” into the radish cake. and i prefer my radish cake to be in smaller pieces haha

oh no, i sacrificed my tummy to write out this post!!! hungry liao lah.

10 desserts that made me “WOW” in Japan

Back in Tokyo after 1-week in Singapore. Still not in work-tempo.

I ate too much too much in Singapore! Except early in the morning when I just wake up, there was not a moment when I was hungry haha… but I am always hungry in Japan sadded 😦 why why why but i think i will grow fat fat if i go back.

and hor, it was so super uber hot! Hotter than the usual dec period when I am back. really bth. so hot and sweat easily such that i gave up putting make-up.

but this time very fast, already start to miss my family, my cats and the food there 😦 my cat super cute leh, was like hopping around when i first stepped into the house, and then kept following me.

i didn’t have enough of my Tiong Bahru Pau 😦 there are still many food i haven’t eaten (despite eating so much XD)

anyway, i’ll be back soon! wahahahaha *laughs with hands on hips*

==================================================================
1) fat and fluffy french toast @ Sarabeth’s
http://www.sarabethsrestaurants.jp

I always eat this without the maple syrup and jam. Loves to enjoy the light egg taste! Outside is crispy, and inside is fluffy as claimed by the name. I think I can eat two plates of this! haha I suggest not to cut it into smaller pieces and eat it, as I think you will lose a bit of the fluffiness when pressing the toast to cut it. Eat it in wild style! hahaha

2) rosemary and olive oil cake @ cicada
http://www.tyharborbrewing.co.jp/jp/cicada/

This mediterranean pastry totally wowed me with its moisture and its buttery taste. However I realised that the buttery taste came from the olive oil after researching about this pastry on the internet. I tried to bake it! But it turned out dry and I think I added too much rosemary 😦 sadded. I will try to bake it again!!!

3) 3-flavours tea tsujiri-tree parfait @ giontsujiri
http://www.giontsujiri.co.jp/

I think I have eaten this more than 5 times, and I always bring friends and colleagues here whenever we are at Asakusa. By the way, its about 20 mins of walk from Asakusa haha. The soft-cream is very soft and not sweet. Very strong and fragrant tea taste. Of course it has to be super tasty to make me have it for so many times! It has high ratings in tabelog (my best friend XD) too!

4) mont blanc @ miyukikan
http://cafe-ginza-miyukikan.com/

When I first tried mont blanc from cozy corner or convenience store, I totally dislike this pastry. The only description I can think of its super sweet! I don’t like it at all. I cannot totally taste the chestnut and started to think that mont blanc all taste like that. I haven’t had mont blanc like for more than 3 years until my Japanese friends brought me to this shop. Their signature pastry is mont blanc, and of course I was “forced” to try it (not forced by my friends haha). Totally swooned me off with the super uber chestnut flavour! No much taste of sugar at all and the cream inside is super light. That explains its high price of about 1000 yen for a small cake too (and because of the chestnuts from Kumamoto prefecture).

5) tofu pancakes with coconut butter @ bondi cafe
http://bondi-cafe.com/

This has to be one of the fluffiest pancakes I ever had, after gotten disappointed by many pancake shops with long queues. I think tofu inside has a part to play. I must try to make my pancakes with tofu someday! Have to admit that most well-known pancakes made me feel sick of the pancakes after a few bites. But this doesn’t! Very fluffy and light! Not their signature dish, and not a shop with as long queue as those usual pancake shops, but the pancakes are definitely worth trying! My other friends love it too!

6) yuba (soy bean) soft-cream @ ine 稲 (Arashiyama, Kyoto)

I think I have a thing for anything with soy bean haha. I like it having a light soy bean taste and not very sweet. Dessert doesn’t have to be super uber sweet right! haha I had this in the super uber hot Kyoto so it was like a life saviour! haha

7) almond pudding @ matsujin

Although this shop is famous for their bbq lamb (a famous food in Hokkaido), I love their almond pudding! I like their bbq meat too, and maybe it is because dessert after bbq, so maybe their almond pudding taste super nice. haha the almond pudding is super thick! Not like those jelly-like, like the almond longan haha… the texture is very creamy! Its been a long time since I went there. Should visit it someday soon!

8) mont blanc @ heritier

I know I mentioned that I dislike mont blanc, but this is another one which is not very sweet and its very light! Actually the rest of their pastry are good too! I want to try their opera cake someday! Opera cake is one of the pastries that I really want to try making it. Their lunch set is reasonably priced and you can choose a cake with an additional of like 200+ yen. So recommend to go for their lunch set which came with a super big pot of tea! haha. By the way, seats are limited in the shop. I remember there were only 2,3 tables.

9) warabi mochi @ sushiro

I know its weird but warabi mochi in sushiro, somehow is super nice. It is very cooling compared to the rest I used to have. I wonder is it because the warabi mochi is just out from the fridge, haha.

10) landtmanntorte @ Cafe Brauner
http://www.giraud.co.jp/brawner/index.html

I like this vienna cake so much that I did tried to find recipe for it, but failed. I think it is cinnamon cake with orange and chocolate cream? I realized that there is a vienna restaurant called Cafe Landtmann in Japan originated from Vienna. Hmm since it is named after the cake, I think it should be their specialty! I want to go try it someday! Their food menu looks yummy too but seems a bit expensive oops.

and not in the list…

durian cheesecake
970125_10151810356120815_1175320750_n
This is not in the list because you cannot get in off the shops. It was made by my Taiwanese friend. I wanted to eat durian and she specially ordered durian (durian is not cheap in japan) and made this cheesecake for us. The cheese is not overwhelming and durian taste goes well perfectly with the cheese! I shall request this cake again! muahaha

owl cafe in tokyo

update on my cat: she passed away last week friday. the next day my sis told me about her situation (><)

hope she will find peace and happiness at wherever she is now! RIP.

recently having many ideas in my mind! i wonder can i work them out! but too many ideas such that i don’t know which to choose haha

also i have been imagining myself to be back staying in singapore for good recently.

i can’t wait to be back in singapore!!! sad that it will be a short trip. who knows, maybe i will be back in summer haha

today i want to introduce about owl cafes in tokyo!

i have been to 2 owl cafes in tokyo. and last last week, i went to one of them again.

at first i thought we won’t be able to enter since there is a paper pasted on the door that said it is fully reserved for that day. but with “persistence”, i knocked the door and asked, and was allowed to go in! *yeah*

its been like half a year since i went there! the owl who used to be new and scared of people is now ok to be patted on its head.

let the photos do the talking

my favorite photo for that night!

big big eyes

“you take enough photos liao or not!?”

with a bigger one. really very guai.

looks like soft toy

“WHO ARE YOU!?!?!”

fluffy~~~

the right one is very big! but he/she is actually a baby!!! we are not supposed to touch him/her

got those ah beng/yakuza look haha

thank you for not shitting on me *hearts*

the shop sells many cute owl-related things too

some info of the cafe

– 1000 yen for an hour with a drink

– you cannot reserve through phone call. must reserve at the shop itself. that means, it might be a wait of more than 1 hour. or no way to enter.

– its at tsukishima station. 1 min walk from exit 10. cross the traffic. you will have hotto-motto bento shop in front of you. turn to your right and cross a small street. and turn left walk straight. they have green “fence” in front of the shop. it is a very hidden shop. i have problems finding it when i first went there.

there are people whom think that it is cruelty to the owls, as it is captivity. but there are also people who think that the owls are well fed and well kept, so its good for them. i have mixed feelings about the whole idea.

recently have been busy planning a mini domestic trip. hmm very stressed planning a trip for 6 people without the usage of car. haha

i hope everything will go well!!!

by the way, i started dayre!!!

address is http://dayre.me/fin0916

i love the stickers there!!!!!! cute!!!!!
